Welcome to Clean Air @ Schools | Bend-La Pine
We are a group of parents dedicated to advocating for clean air in our Central Oregon community. We want to share what we know about the health risks associated with wildfire smoke and what the school district policies are regarding indoor and outdoor air quality. We see a clear need to protect our children and community from the tangible and inevitable harm of breathing wildfire smoke. We are asking the school district to:
-
keep children indoors when the AQI is over 150 and to consider keeping them indoors between 100-150
-
install air quality monitors inside and outside of every school in the district
-
properly train facilities personnel and administrators to manage air quality in our schools
-
make air quality a priority at every school
Most of the year, our air in Central Oregon is pristine. Unfortunately, during the late summer and early fall we need to pay attention when the air is filled with smoke. During the times when our air is unhealthy it is important to minimize outdoor activity and ensure indoor air is as clean as possible. Just as we prevent exposure to lead, excessive temperatures, asbestos, carbon monoxide, radon & cigarette smoke within our schools, we need to do all we can to prevent inhalation of wildfire smoke.
We strive to provide valuable information and resources to help everyone understand the impact of air quality on our community's health and well-being. Join us in our mission to create a healthier and safer environment for our students and teachers.
